Uber is introducing a new policy on driver's hours in the UK next week, which it says will help to increase safety for both passengers and drivers.

It's proposed that a licensed driver on its app must take an uninterrupted six-hour rest after 10 hours of driving a passenger or after travelling to pick up someone.
Drivers who do not take a rest won't be able to log in to the app.

Although the association that represent black cab told BBC "it was toothless cap".

'No Rule'
Andrew Byrne, Uber's head of policy said: "We are not aware of any other private hire operator in the UK that has introduced such a limit".

"While drivers only spend an average of 30 hours a week logged into our apps, we want to do on our part that they don,t get tired".

Steve McNamara, genera secretary of the Licensed Taxi Drivers' Association for black cab drivers said that a toothless cap that still allows Uber's drivers to 100 hours a week, and a PR stunt that will not guarantee safety.

"Unlike Uber drivers, all balck cab drivers undertake enhanced driving tests and as such well aware of the dangers of working long hours. This high standard of safety is reflected in the low numbers of accidents involving black cab drivers".
